Registration

How to register with the Shammies

There are 2 options to register a player, either via the Rugby Xplorer App or at https://myaccount.rugby.com.au/


A few things to know to make it easier to register:


  • You will need to obtain your Active Kids $50 Rebate Voucher from Service NSW BEFORE you register. You will have the option to input the voucher number during the registration process and the discount will apply automatically to the registration fee.
  • You will need to login with your email address previously used to register for the 2024 season or create a new account if not previously registered. It should recognise all your accounts with email address. If not, you can select ‘Create linked rugby account’ and either select the child to be linked to your account or create a new account.
  • After you click on Register and select which child you are registering you will need to search for Club and select "Petersham JRC"
  • For XVs competition Rugby:  select the following: Role: Player, Registration Type: XVS Juniors, Duration: Season
  • For Mighty 5s Rugby:  select the following: Role: Modified Rugby Participant, Registration Type: Little Rugby, Duration: Season
  • You will be given the option to upload a photo. You can skip this step if you have any issues adding the photo or don’t have a suitable headshot and add the photo before the first round.
  • Select "No" when you are given the option to ‘Make my name private’ otherwise the player won’t appear on team sheets.
  • There are some non mandatory saleable items for the XV competition for Holman Barnes Club membership (major sponsor for the Club) - $3 (1 year), $13 (5 years) or $23 (10 years) option
  • Finally when you pay there is an option to donate money through the Australian Sports Foundation to Petersham Juniors. This is fully tax deductible and you will get as statement for your donation so minimise your tax and give to the Shammies.
  • If you are registering more than one player you will need to click "Yes" on the "Would you like to register another player" popup that appears on the confirmation screen for the Family Discount to apply automatically to any additional children. Note family discount does not apply to Mighty 5s.


If the Family Discount does not apply automatically when you are registering a second, third or fourth child please email registrar@petershamjuniors.com. Please contact our registrar with any questions or issues regarding registration at registrar@petershamjuniors.com.

Membership Fees

Under 5 (Walla Rugby/Mighty 5s) - $100 per player


Under 6 – 7 (Tri time) - $180 per player


Under 8 – 9 (Minis) - $210 per player


Under 10 – 12 (Juniors) - $240 per player


Under 13+ (Juniors) - $250 per player


Less $50 Active Kids NSW Voucher where eligible


Family Discount – 2nd child less $35, 3rd child less $70, 4th child less $95. You will need to register one player at a time, after first registration is completed please click on Register Additional Player. 


All registered players will receive Hoodie, Socks, Shorts, and a Training Shirt. 


Added bonus for 2025 season: U6, U7 & U8 players will receive a Free Wahu pack which you can claim via redemption AND all registered players aged under 16 will get a free Junior ticket to all Waratahs Home matches. All players wearing their Club gear get free entry to Sydney University Shute Shield home matches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at registrar@petershamjuniors.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

 If they were 5 on the 1st of January this year, they can come and join the under 6’s, which is great fun. If your child is slightly younger, we can definitely welcome them too. It is two-hand tag for their first few years of rugby – it is safe and the kids (and parents) have a ball.


If you want to try rugby, you can come and train for 2-3 weeks, see if you like it, and then register.  Please note to ensure you are covered by insurance you must register first - either training only or full registration. We will always refund full registration if you decide not to continue. 


 The season tends to flow as follows:

  • Start training late Feb / early March
  • Games start in the last week of March
  • The season finishes in late August
  • If your child plays u10’s and above there are finals that may flow into the first week of September


We train at Camperdown Oval in Mallett St, Camperdown. Click here for location.


Training times differ across age groups. 

  • u6s-u10s train at 5:30pm on Tuesdays
  • u11s-u12s train at 5:30pm on Wednesdays
  • u13s-Opens train at 5:30pm on Thursdays. Opens often train with Seniors colts 6:30pm Thursdays.

Coaches may run additional skill sessions throughout the week.


Footy boots are important, along with the training shirt you will receive at the start of the season.  From u8 and older, a mouthguard is mandatory at training and games.  Headgear is recommended but not mandatory. 


  • For u6-u9, you participate in the Inner West Minis Competition and all games are on Saturday at St Luke’s Park (near Concord Oval). The younger teams will start at 8.30am or 9.10am while the u8’s and 9’s may be slightly after. In 2023 we will also be running gala days where we will travel to other grounds in Sydney and play different teams. These are a mix of Saturday and Sunday games.
  • For u10 and older you are part of the Sydney Junior Rugby Union, and you are then part of a home/away competition. You will either play on a Friday evening or Sunday morning depending on your team’s decision.  Games will alternate between home games at Camperdown Oval and away games hosted by different rugby clubs throughout Sydney.


Petersham supplies a rugby jersey with a number on the back for your child.  These are handed back at the end of each game or season. 


There are no games played during school holidays and long weekends and Easter.  Training may or may not be on, it is at the discretion of your coach, but we encourage families to continue their holiday plans and enjoy the break if required. 


  • Kit – club socks, shorts, training shirt and winter hoodie
  • A full season of rugby – training, games and fun events
  • A coach and a team manager
  • Access to club functions – Welcome Day at the start of the year, Parents Night Out in the middle of the Year and Presentation
  • Presentation – medals and awards


Petersham Rugby has been playing in the famous maroon and blue strip for over 130 years. 


 We are a little different and have 2 logos

  1. The traditional Petersham Rugby logo featuring the famous NSW waratah
  2. Our 2nd one is only a few years old and is the now-famous Super-P logo which makes the kids look like super heroes

We love em both!!


When your child plays in the u10’s or above, they have the opportunity to represent their district.  Petersham Juniors, along with Balmain and Canterbury form part of the Sydney University district. 


Each age group has their own trials and if your child is selected they will play in the state championships.  These are normally around the June long weekend, but can vary by age group.


Sometimes training or games need to be cancelled because of poor weather.  Your manager will inform you of cancellations via email or WhatsApp. Also connect to the Clubs social media as we will post latest updates on there.


Our club is built on the involvement of family, friends and community.  The cooperation and collaboration of our parent group is enormous and it gives the kids AND the parent group so much.


There are lots of ways you can help.  We promise it will give you a lot of joy and satisfaction.

  • Coaching - helping kids develop their rugby skills and build long-lasting friendships
  • Manage - help teams get organised - gear, logistics, players, etc
  • Refereeing - referee games if you are qualified
  • First aid - provide safety support at the ground
  • Ground marshalling - prepare and manage all equipment and crowds at the ground
  • Sponsor (partners) - financial support for jerseys, gear and tours
  • BBQ Masterchef - cook up a storm for the club BBQ
  • Fundraisers - help manage events to raise money
  • Social Organisers - bring families together for fun celebrations
  • Gear & Kit Manager - coordinate that all players have all the gear for a game
  • Canteen Manager - organise parent rosters and food orders
