Tradition since 1883
Petersham Rugby Union Football Club (our big brother club) is Australia’s 2nd oldest rugby club. Since 1883 Petersham Rugby, otherwise known as the Shammies, has been playing the game they play in heaven.
The Juniors Club was born more recently but continues with the spirit of family and fun started more than a century ago.
Michael Crawford and a few others banded together in 2006 to create the Juniors club with a hardy bunch of kids for the inaugural Under 6 team.
That pioneering team matured over the following years, and new generations started to join the fold. The influx of families to the Inner West saw a demand for a fun, high energy community club for kids to join and have a fun, unique experience – that was US.
Inner West rugby grows
After the early years, the club found its feet when the Inner West Minis was formed in 2010. With a structured rugby program for kids in the Inner West of Sydney, the club has seen a vibrant community grow together with other great inner west clubs.
The baton passes on…
In 2015, former Seniors President, Adam Dunn became Juniors President who then passed the President baton to John Kilkenny in 2020. The Club now fields 16 teams from u6 to u17 and has over 280 players.
The Ultimate Touring Club
The Juniors are following in the steps of the Touring Seniors to now be known as the Touring Juniors. Teams have been to New Zealand, Japan, interstate, and regional NSW.
Come, enjoy the experience
There is plenty to look forward to for the Juniors Club – awesome games, well attended social functions and we now have girls participating in several age groups in both mixed teams and all-girl teams.
Come and be part of one Sydney's biggest and most vibrant junior rugby clubs…. Petersham Juniors Rugby.
